I'm considering going carless. Want your input.
Financial considerations: +~$2500 a year in Insurance +~1200 a year for renting out parking spot + maintenance, oil, repairs, etc. - whatever I'll spend on cabbing, TTCing and car rentals. The plan is to sell the car to parents and put money into TFSA. God knows there's plenty of space. Consider: It's parked at their place more then half of the time anyways. I don't really need it. They will have to buy a new one very soon, with grandparents coming here and all. When I do need to get somewhere in Toronto, biking, cabbing and TTCing comes out way cheaper, if somewhat inconvenient. Plus, at this point I all but lost my hatered for public transit. There is a Enterprise Rental 15 minutes of walking from me, so if I ever need a car to go out of town - Waterloo, Montral, US, I can always rent one. It's not that expensive, if a credit card covers insurance, and I get to drive a different new car all the time. I can also always borrow the car from parents for the weekend. They've been borrowing it for the last half a year. Downside: I don't get to ride around like a bous in a shiny bigass SUV. I kinda really like this car. | | Tuesday, April 17th, 2012 | | 6:36 pm |

Hey techies and gizmo-lovers. I've got project in mind, and I need your advice.
This is what I want to do, approximately: A tablet of some sort, sitting on the wall, sort of a like a picture with wires. - It has access to the media/music library, over WiFi. - It can stream the music through some audio-out port to an audio-center that's located not too far from it. - It runs some software like Windows Media Center with a touch-screen interface. The UI needs to be simple and with large "touch buttons" The point of the excersize is to enable my mom to come to the media-wall in the kitchen and play the music she wants to play with a taps. Bonus points: I would be able to connect the tablet to a TV later (once there is a TV in the kitchen) and stream movies from the same media library. More bonus points: the wall-mount is semi-permanent, I can take the remove/replace the table withot a hassle. Maybe a docking station or something? Is this doable? selling my old Maxima

You know what just occurred to me? On YouTube, just under the video, there is a section called "Highest Rated Comments". I suddenly and shockingly realized that it's existence implies that someone rates youtube comments(Also known as "the asshole of the internet"). Reading Ramblings
Впервые читаю "A Game of Thrones". Первый раз за много лет мне по настоящему нравится "классическая" фентези. Красивый чистый язык, не кичащийся заумностями и словарем*. Правдиввые персонажи, яркие сеттинги, захватывающий сюжет. Все в один голос рекоммендовали читать не откладывая. Теперь и я рекоммендую. Нужно срочно закончить все четыре книжки до августа, чтобы избежать конфликта интересов. В августе выходит Старкрафт :) * После Миевилля - это очень радует. Читая Железный Совет, приходилось лезть за определениями через страницу. Миевиль во первых по снобски демонстративно использует всю широту своего словарного запаса, а во вторых любит креатиное словообразование. А так-же смешивает и то и другое. Вчера узнал что если предварительно заказать * StarCraft 2 на амазоне, то бесплатно дают ключ к бете. Вот незадача какая. Хороший кусок июля у меня пропадет так или иначе. Есть ли смысл убивать еще и кусок мая? С другой стороны, игру я щсе ращно куплю, какая разница, сейчас или в июне. Пока креплюсь :) *pre-order in russian :) |
